What is a Doula?
A Doula is a trained professional birth coach who provides emotional, informational, physical and mental support during the prenatal, birth and postpartum periods.
During the prenatal period a doula is available to answer questions, help form a birth plan and so much more!
At the birth the doula offers encouragement, suggestions to help ease labor, narration of events, and creates a calm positive atmosphere and hands on physical support.
The use of a Doula can decrease the risk of an unsatisfactory birth experience, as well as the use of pitocin and cesarean sections. Doula support never replaces the partners role in the birth! instead they help the partner understand whats happening in labor, navigate interventions, and be the best support for their partner by utilizing different comfort techniques with the doulas guidance.
Mattye is an incredible doula. She is knowledgeable and passionate about helping women have amazing birth experiences.
I hired Mattye as my Doula for my second birth because I was determinedto have a better birth experience than my first (without a doula). I met Mattye at my birth center and heard nothing but good things from my midwives about her. When we sat down to talk about what I expected from her we clicked with her immediately and knew she was the perfect match for us. She holds all the same natural minded views and values as we do. I was so happy with the outcome of my second birth and I give a lot of credit for that to Mattye for being so helpful through every single contraction. She did so many little things for us that I wouldn’t have even thought about. For example, she brought little tea light candles to put in the bathroom around the tub for a relaxing atmosphere and she had peppermint oil for me when I was feeling nauseated. She applied counter pressure on my back with tennis balls and she rubbed my back and brought me heated rice packs too. She had lots of good ideas for positions to labor in. She even made a placenta print painting for me and took really amazing photos of my birth and after the birth. There aren’t enough superlatives in the dictionary to express how amazing she is. I hope if I ever have another baby that Mattye will be right at my side again. I don’t think I would have had such a good labor and delivery experience if it wasn’t for her. Thank you so so so much Mattye! We 💜 you!
Mattye is so sweet and a very caring person. She truly loves what she does. I would recommend her to anyone!
